Niger State Government Dissolves State Electoral Commission

Niger’s governor, Umaru Bago, has disbanded the state’s independent electoral body (NSIEC).

This is said in a statement issued by Alhaji Abubakar Usman, Secretary to the State Government (SSG), in Minna on Sunday, July 2, 2023. He stated that the dissolution will take effect on May 29.

“Members of the commission are directed to hand over all state government property in their possession to the most senior Director with immediate effect,” the statement said.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the Niger State House of Assembly fired NSIEC Chairman Alhaji Baba Aminu on September 27, 2022, for suspected misconduct.
