Retired generals set agenda as Tinubu meets service chiefs

Retired generals laid out a plan for the new service chiefs on how to address the country’s security concerns on Monday.

Tinubu’s meeting with the security heads on Monday was his first known in-person interaction with them since their June 19 appointment.

They include the Chief of Defence Staff, Maj. Gen. C.G Musa; Chief of Army Staff, Maj. Gen. T. A Lagbaja; Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral E. A Ogalla; Chief of Air Staff, AVM H.B. Abubakar; the Chief of Defense Intelligence, Maj. Gen. EPA Undiandeye and the Acting Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.

Speaking against the backdrop of the North-East insurgency, banditry in the North-West, and other criminal activities and killings across the country, retired military officers urged security authorities to learn from their predecessors and improve on their shortcomings.

The ex-servicemen issued the advice hours after the security chiefs met with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, where he charged them with working as a team to address insecurity with the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, and the acting Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.
