Reps appeal to the UK government for Ekweremadu’s pardon

The house of representatives has requested the UK government and parliament to intervene in the sentencing of Ike Ekweremadu and Beatrice, his wife.

The lawmakers asked the UK court to “temper justice and mercy” while deciding how long to sentence the lawmaker.

Additionally, the lawmakers urged the federal government to use diplomatic means to “intervene” in the lawmaker’s trial.

Following the adoption of a motion of urgent public importance sponsored by Enugu lawmaker Toby Okechukwu, the resolution was approved during plenary session on Tuesday.

After the motion was approved, the legislators requested that the lower legislative chamber’s clerk “convey” their resolutions to the British Embassy, UK government, and the parliament in writing.

The Central Criminal Court, Old Bailey in the UK will sentence Ekweremadu on May 5.
