Probe rot in Customs, CBN and NNPCL Kachikwu urges Tinubu

The presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress in the 2023 general elections, Dumebi Kachikwu, has called on President Bola Tinubu to order a comprehensive audit of the activities of the Central Bank of Nigeria, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited as well as the Nigeria Customs Service.

The investigation of the three institutions, according to Kachikwu, who made the charge in his Democracy Day broadcast on Monday, would not only reveal the extent of abuse in recent years but would also assist the new administration in starting reforms aimed at reviving the economy in preparation for the challenges ahead.

The ADC leader commended Tinubu for making the courageous choice to announce the end of petrol subsidies, but he criticized Tinubu for failing to implement sufficient palliative measures to ease the suffering caused by the increase in the price of gasoline at the national pump.

He said, “Our President must immediately investigate the activities of our CBN governor, the most political CBN governor we’ve had in the history of Nigeria.

“The pillars of the economy today are the CBN, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited and the Nigeria Customs Service. Every other sphere of our economy derives from these pillars but they are the most corrupt pillars of our society. If the President has started working on the CBN, he must at the same time, spread his tentacles to the NNPCL and the customs.”
