Police pensioners beg Tinubu to exempt retirees from contributory scheme

The Association of Retired Police Officers of Nigeria has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to sign into law, the Bill for an “Act To Exit the Nigeria Police Force from the Contributory Pension Scheme.”

The President of ARPON, retired Assistant Inspector of Police, Elder Steven Aiyewumi, made the appeal in a statement in Abuja on Tuesday.

According to Aiyewumi, the appeal was necessary to ensure that the retired police personnel received the correct compensation and prevent any instances of retirement benefit payments being improperly used.

He did, however, congratulate the 9th National Assembly for paying attention to and taking into account the Force’s wishes when it passed and forwarded the bill for an act to remove the Nigeria Police Force from the Contributory Pension Scheme to the president for his approval.

“We therefore lend our voices to that of all well-meaning Nigerians to passionately appeal to Mr. President to swiftly give his assent to the Bill,” Aiyewumi said in his statement.
