Oyo SDP Suspends Michael Lana, Secretary Over Anti-party Activities

The Social Democratic Party in Oyo State in a letter signed by the party’s State Chairman, Michael Okunlade has suspended its governorship candidate in the March 18 governorship election, Michael Lana, and the party secretary, Idowu Owokoya, for alleged anti-party activities.

The letter which was addressed to the party’s national headquarters in Abuja on Friday suspended the duo for anti-party activities “in line with the party constitution”.

“After reviewing the activities of Lana, the gubernatorial candidate in the just-concluded general elections, and the secretary of the party during and after the elections, the whole house resolved as follows:

“That Lana be suspended from the party for anti-party activities. (He has) no substantial contribution to the party. The state secretary, Owokoya, be suspended for indiscipline, insubordination, and dropping the name of the national secretary to destabilise the party.

“In line with the party constitution, we, therefore, wish to forward the resolution of the party for your office’s approval to suspend both Lana and Owokoya. The party also resolved that Ajibola Adeniyi of Lagelu Local Government under the Oyo Central secretarial district would replace Owokoya in an acting capacity.

“The meeting was held on March 31, 2023, in our state office. It comprises members of state executives and the local government chairmen,” a copy of the letter read.

Earlier, the Punch had reported that party executive and its governorship candidate had disagreements days to the election over whom to collapse the structure of the SDP for between Seyi Makinde of the Peoples Democratic Party and Teslim Folarin of the All Progressives Congress in the state.
