Makinde Flags off campaign for second term bid

Gov Makinde faces stiff opposition from the duo of APC and Accord Gubernatorial Candidates amidst Internal rancor in the PDP over Atiku’s Presidential Bid

The Gubernatorial Candidate and Executive Governor of Oyo State of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday flagged off his campaign for a second term in office at the historic MAPO Hall in Ibadan.

The Governor while appreciating attendees of the event and the people of the state in general highlighted successes recorded under his watch over three years especially in the educational sector some of which are the acquisition of the sole ownership of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, upgrade of a College of Education to university status. His statement reads:

“The Emmanuel Alayande College of Education Oyo, (state-owned) has been upgraded to university status. We cancelled the payment of N3,000 level in our public primary and secondary schools.

“Our monthly internally generated revenue was increased from N1.8 billion when we came into N3.8 billion.

“In the area of infrastructure, we were able to construct and rehabilitate many roads to link all the zones in the state.

“On security, we created Amotekun to enhance the security of lives and property in addition to support being given to conventional security agencies in the state,” he said.

Mr. Makinde was flanked by members of the Integrity Group also known as the G-5 whose stiff opposition to the PDP Atiku’s Presidential bid is well reported. Taking turns to address the mammoth crowd were governors Nyesom Wike (Rivers); Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu); Samuel Ortom (Benue) and Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia) each commending and endorsing Mr. Makinde for his second term while presenting the party’s flag to each candidates contesting for the House of Representatives seats, Senate seats and the Gubernatorial seat.

The election however promises to be fiercely contested as other candidates from the other parties have gained followership since the commencement of campaigns chiefly the candidates of the All Progressive Candidate (APC) Senator Teslim Folarin and Chief Adebayo Adelabu of the Accord Party.
