Labour unions resume talks with Federal Government over subsidy today

The Federal Government and the leadership of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) will resume talks on petrol subsidy removal palliatives today, Monday, June 19, 2023.

After the removal of fuel subsidies, both parties are expected to address and harmonize the requests made by the labor unions.

Following that, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) published a pricing template for the pump price of gasoline at its outlet stations.

The administration also called Labour leaders to a conversation in order to avert a strike. The Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment disclosed that the parties would reconvene at the presidential Villa, Abuja, by 4 pm.

In their discussions with the government, the labor unions demanded, among other things, that the minimum wage for employees be raised to 200,000 in order to lessen the impact of the rise in the price of gasoline. The government is believed to have agreed to some of the demands tendered by the labor unions.

Other demands are expected to be addressed as both parties resume talks today.
