INEC declares Fintiri winner of Adamawa guber poll

The Independent National Electoral Commission has declared Ahmadu Fintiri the Adamawa State governorship election winner.

The Returning Officer for the gubernatorial election, Muhammed Melee, declared incumbent Fintiri of the Peoples Democratic Party winner on Tuesday after polling 430,861 votes to defeat his major counterpart Aisha Binani of the All Progressives Congress who polled 398,788.

INEC reopened the collation center for the supplementary election results on Tuesday following a non-authorized declaration by the state REC leading to protests by members of the PDP.

On Sunday, the All Progressives Congress candidate, Binani, was declared winner of the election by the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Hudu Ari, interrupting the state’s vote-counting process. The commission then requested that Hudu stay away from the office on Monday.
