Gov Aliyu disguises, rides tricycle on surprise hospital inspection

Ahmad Aliyu, the governor of Sokoto State, paid an impromptu visit to the Sokoto Specialist Hospital to evaluate the caliber of the facility’s services on monday.

The governor’s press secretary, Malam Abubakar Bawa, made this information public on Monday in Sokoto.

According to Bawa, the governor’s decision to drop by the hospital without prior notice was a result of many complaints made by state residents about the institution’s inadequate delivery of healthcare services.

The governor’s need for a first-hand evaluation of the hospital’s dilapidated facilities, unpredictable power supply, shortage of personnel, and lack of working medical equipment, among other issues, prompted the governor to visit, the press secretary said.

He emphasized that Aliyu rode a bike to the hospital to speak with the staff members and gain firsthand knowledge.

The Bawa release quoted the donor as saying, “I was startled with what I observed during my visit to the hospital, which lasted for four hours and gave me the chance to witness things.

“Patients and their relatives are subjected to all kinds of hazardous situations owing to dirty environment and lack of functional  equipment in the medical facility.

“Due to the inconsistent electrical supply at the hospital, patients’ families only use alternative sources of energy.

The governor was further reported by Bawa as adding, “I have directed the management of the hospital to see me for further discussions on how to remedy the ugly situation.”
