Benue: Gunmen kidnap Catholic priest

Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have abducted a Catholic priest of Otukpo Diocese, Rev. Fr. Anthony Adikwu.

The Rev. Father is the parish priest of St. Margaret’s Parish, Ajegbe Awume, in Ohimini Local Government Area of Benue State.

According to an eyewitness who only gave his name as Oche, some gunmen broke into the Awume neighborhood about 10 p.m. and went straight to the church, where they abducted the priest.

He said, “Yesterday (Thursday) night at 10 p.m., some gunmen stormed Ajegbe Awume, Ohimini Benue State, the kidnappers went straight to the church premises and kidnapped the Rev. Father in Charge of St. Margaret Parish.”

SP Catherine Anene, the public relations officer for the Benue State Command, confirmed the event when contacted.

Anene said, “The information got to us this morning (Friday), and we are working on it.”
