Since taking office on May 29, the President has met with a number of important stakeholders in the executive, legislative, corporate, and traditional institutions. Friday’s meeting is only one of these interactions.

As he stressed in his inaugural speech, Tinubu plans to talk about issues of national healing and togetherness during the private gathering.

In his opening remarks, the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Sa’adu Abubakar III, who led his counterparts to the meeting, said the traditional rulers visited the President to congratulate him and to assure him of their support in his difficult mission of nation-building.

The Sultan argued that the council of traditional rulers had a wealth of experts from numerous sectors, making the council a good resource from which the President might draw knowledge.

He also affirmed the traditional leaders’ faith in Tinubu’s abilities to move Nigeria forward, saying they would help him turn his renewed hope agenda into workable laws.

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Adewusi, encouraged President Tinubu to make greater “use” of the traditional leaders to solve insecurity.

Please use us, Mr. President. Use us. Use us, the king said.

Present are Vice President Kashim Shettima; the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume; the State House Permanent Secretary, Tijjani Umar; Emir of Kano, Obi of Onitsha, Tor Tiv, Etsu Nupe, Deji of Akure, Shehu of Borno, Elegushi of Ikate, Jaja of Opobo, Lamido of Adamawa, Emir of Zazzau, Gbong Gwom Jos, Attah Igala, Alake of Egbaland, Shehu of Borno and a representative of the Oba of Benin.
